My teaching context
My name is Esmeralda Muñoz-Torrero. I have been working for UAL for eight years and the last five at LCC.
For the last five years I have been working at LCC’s DIGITAL SPACE as a Specialist Learning and Teaching Technician. A job title that doesn’t really explain much. So, If I may, I’ll start by describing the area where I work. The Digital Space is a digital skills learning center where students come and work at their projects whilst having support from our technical team.
My skill set comprises a number of Adobe programs that are used as tools in the areas of Graphic Design and Photography as well as their practical applications towards reaching a physical/digital outcome. Part of my responsibilities in this space includes the support and facilitation of learning for students on their day to day work towards a learning outcome. This also includes a lot of problem-solving activities.
Furthermore, I provide a wide range of workshops outside the academic curriculum for which students have to sign up and attend in their own time. I also provide some of these workshops for specific courses when requested by the tutors. The duration of my workshops is 2 hours and most of the time that will be the only contact time I will have with a particular group of students. Although sometimes the same tutor requires a set of 3 or 4 workshops that include different Adobe Programs.
